7/2/2007Summer Updates
I've updated my digiscoping page with photos of the Red-necked Phalarope that I found at North Branch in late May, some bird nests I found in my yard and I'm working on a page with some butterflies and dragonflies that I photographed recently. I also updated the family page with news about our new swimming pool. While doing research on the pool we bought I found this hilarious story on the internet. Check out the indoor pool story. It's pretty funny !
I've been having extraordinary fun making use of the Google Maps API on my www.westernmdbirding.com website. The site guides for both Allegany and Garrett Counties both have maps and I've added single comprehensive maps for all sites in each county. You can also get directions to any of the sites from an address or lat/long that Google Maps can recognize.
In addition to all the programming, I've added a lot of new content to that site including a list of bird books you can buy from amazon, a new logo that I created with the GIMP, and a lot of new sites that I've added to the site guides.
Additionally I'm working on some applications at work using PHP and MapServer that will allow a user to query data from a shapefile using a form. I've avoided using PostGIS so far but perhaps I'll have to look into that at some point because I suspect it will make this type of query a lot easier. It's just another technology that I have been hoping to avoid having to learn.
